There was a lovely homestead on the outskirts of Bullacocko, deep in the heart of a faraway country. On this homestead was a beautiful old house, with a pretty garden, a huge dam, two huge sheds, a few hens, a cheeky cock, a couple of docile sheep, a couple of cows, and a very massive bull. The sheep was kept in one of the sheds during the evenings, so that they could sleep more cosily, and the cows and the bull slept in the other shed during the evenings. The hens and the cheeky cock were kept inside a pen, but somehow, the cheeky cock, with the very beautiful name of Eduaro, always managed to find a way to get out of the pen.

The owner of all these animals was a pleasant young man in his late twenties. The previous evening he had carried his brand new bride over the threshold, and while he was carrying her in his arms, his heart overflowed with so much love for her, and he had a wonderful dream, and that dream was to work hard so that he could become the best farmer that he could be. He wanted him and his brand new wife to make the most of each and every day, and he wanted them to make time for the really important things in life. He loved all his farm animals, and he knew that if he farmed with them, he would enjoy great success in a couple of years time. He felt so happy with the fact that there was such a lot of harmony on his homestead. Harmony, and so much love.

Very early the next morning Eduaro, the cheeky cock, was walking up and down outside the pen. He had once again managed to find a way to get out of the pen, and he kept on walking up and down, oh, so very pompously, and he was really strutting his stuff. He felt that he had the most important job on the homestead, and that job was to wake up all the farm animals, and the owner and his brand new wife with his very loud crowing sound. He felt puffed up with his own self-importance, and he could hardly wait for the first rays of the sun to peek over the mountain, so that he could awaken everybody joyfully with his loud, over-zealous crowing. He kept his gaze firmly upon the mountain, and waited impatiently.

Finally, after a couple of dragged out minutes, the first rays of the sun did peek out over the mountain, and upon noticing, Eduaro’s little cock heart stirred with joy, because his big moment had arrived. It was his moment in the spotlight, and he was very determined to make the most of it. So without further ado, he flapped his wings, sucked in his breath, so very seriously, and then he uttered a shrieking crow, and it was such a loud noise that it tore through the perfect stillness of the morning.
