Excerpt: Tic Tac and the Raven

Laila put an easel up by the window
to paint the pretty view.
Then she dipped her magic paint brush in water.
“I know this brush is magic, because…”
As soon as the brush touched it,
the canvas became wet!

“Oh my,” said Laila. “I need some color.”
She began to look around her house for color.
Everything was only grey.
“Oh my, oh my,” she said. “I really do need color.
I need it everywhere.”

Then she looked outside through her window.
“The world is full of color.”
Laila put on her little grey hat
and took her magic paint brush outside.
As she walked across the grass,
she let the brush sweep along
the tops of the little blades.

The magic brush took up the green of the grass.
There were stems and leaves
of green in the bushes
and green leaves in a tree.
She touched these
with her magic brush and took up all the green.

“Green is beautiful,” she told herself with a smile.
She held her brush up to see all the shades
of green.
“But I really want to have more than
just green in my house
and on my painting.”

“I know!” Laila had a wonderful thought.
“The fields have many flowers
all of them with different colors.”
So she walked on until she came to a big field
full of flowers of all kinds.

There amongst the flowers were
yellow sunflowers and daffodils.
She touched them
all with her magic brush.
Sure enough, the colors soaked into the brush.

She found red marigolds and roses and zinnias.
The magic brush picked up
the different shades
of red from them.
