Star Shiner

Written By Robert T. “Tommy” Williams

Illustrated by Eunice Font

Go shine, Little Star,” said the Star Shiner, “find the sun, then stay close and shine.

Shine all that is good into the darkness, stay suspended in space, and reflect the sunshine.”

But I am just a little star.

How will anyone ever see my light?”

Please send me to join my friends in the night time sky, then I will shine even more brightly.”

No, you must stand alone in the darkness, far from the brightness of the others.”

But I am afraid, and I feel so small. What value will my little light be in the sky tonight?”

Would you like to be the brightest star in the sky tonight and be remembered for all time?”

I have a special task for you, but your light will only shine for a little while.”

Yes, I would, but please don’t send me into the darkness."

I don’t want to stand out there all alone.”

You must stand where it is the darkest if you want people to see your light.”

Oh, is there no other way, without going so far from home and leaving all that is comfortable, all that I have ever known?”

You must,” said Star Shiner, “If you’re willing I must send you far from home.”

But what will I do when I get there?”

Just turn your face towards the sun, and let the sun reflect off you when you turn your face towards home.

I have shined you, Little Star, to shine …shine bright. I have made you for this moment. I have created you to shine.”

Oh, is there no other way, without going so far from home and leaving all that is comfortable, all that I have ever known?”
